Description:
Davana is a small herb, xerophytic in nature; its botanical name is Artemisia pallens. It belongs to Asteraceae family and grows from seeds and fully developed in four months, its flowers are racemose panicles, bear numerous small yellow flower heads or capitula, Davana plant is commonly grown in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu and Karnataka states of India.
Extraction:
Davana oil is acquired from stem and leaves of the herb by steam distillation method.
Properties:
It is brown or burnt orange in color with rich, sweet & fruity, slightly woody with hint of vanilla and has thick consistency.
Composition:
Davana oil is mainly composed of a ketone called davanone, linalool, divan ether and divan furan and other minor components are methyl cinnamate, ethyl cinnamate, bicyclogermacrene, 2-hydroxyisodavanone, farnesol, geranyl acetate, sesquiterpene lactones and germacranolide.
Blending:
Davana oil is nicely blends with other essential oils such as neroli, geranium, grapefruit, cedar wood, caraway, coriander and chamomile.
Uses:
- Davana oil is used in perfumery as it fragrance is sweet and fruity.
