Description-
Cade is a species of Juniper, its binomial name is Juniperus oxycedrus. Cade is vary in size from low shrub to a tree about 6m; leaves are tiny, narrow and prickly. Crude (unrectified) Cade oil have carcinogenic compound i.e. benzo pyrene rings so, harmful to be used internally or externally, Crude Cade oil need to be rectified, removal of carcinogenic compound. Cade oil has antiseptic, antimicrobial and fungicidal property.
Extraction-
Cade oil is extracted by steam distillation of wood or destructive distillation of shrubs, then distillate is left to be sit for several days 15-20 days, after which it will have separated into three layers- a bottom layer of tar, an aqueous layer and top layer of essential oil what we use.
Properties-
Cade oil is light to medium brownish in colour, resinous and strange to vary smell. Its consistency is medium thick. Cade oil aroma is strong, smoky and woodsy like burning of wood and tar.
Composition-
Its constituents are phenols (cresol guaiacol), cadinene and terpene.
Uses-
- Cade oil is best remedy for hair loss, hair weakened by dyeing and bleaching.
- It is also used against skin eruption to soothe skin.
- It is also used as herbal medicine in treatment of various diseases such as diarrhea, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), diabetes, high blood pressure, bronchitis, pneumonia and itching.
- It is also used as ingredients in skin creams, ointments and in antidandruff shampoo.
Safety and Precaution-
Due to carcinogenic compound presence, crude cade oil should not be used internally or externally, only rectified oil should be used.
