Description:
Myrtle oil is obtained from Myrtus communis which belongs to Myrtaceae family. Myrtle is an evergreen shrub or small tree which grows up to 5 meters, leaves are complete without breaks & fragrant and shiny and 1.5 to 2 inches long. The fruit consists of round berries containing several seeds, commonly blue black in color. Myrtle plant is native shrub in the Middle East such as Turkey, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, France, Spain, Greece and Italy.

Extraction:
Myrtle oil is extracted from flowers, leaves and stem of Myrtus communis through steam distillation method.

Composition:
Its main constituents are cineol, myrtenol, pinene, myrtenyl acetate, geraniol, linalool, camphene and borneol.

Properties:
Myrtle oil is clear to greenish yellow to very light orange in colour and its aroma is sweet, fresh, camphory & and penetrating scent.

Blending:
Myrtle oil blends well with benzoin, bergamot, neroli, rose, myrrh, Melissa, jasmine, lavender, lemon, lemongrass, clary sage, coriander, frankincense, eucalyptus, black pepper, elemi and ylang ylang oils.

Uses:

  • It makes gums contract and strengthen their hold on teeth so that it is used in mouthwash.
  • It reduces wrinkles and tightens the skin.
  • It eliminates odor and used in incense sticks, burners, fumigants and vaporizers as room fresheners.
  • It is used as body deodorant or perfume.
  • It has antiseptic quality, it protects against sepsis and tetanus.
  • It reduces presence and deposition of phlegm and clears congestion of nasal tracts, bronchi and lungs resulting from colds and provides good relief from coughing.
  • It is effective against neurotic disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, shaking limbs, fear, vertigo, anxiety and chronic stress.
  • It relaxes and sedates as it provides relief from tension, stress, anger, distress and depression.
